Most bugs that find your yard home are not grass friendly bugs. Some bugs have spikes on them that as they walk between each blade of grass they cut them which can cause disease and bare spots in the yard. The acid will also kill the grass and make it hard for the grass to grow back.
The best way to tell if your lawn has bugs is if it is not growing as fast as it normally does or as you're mowing you see bugs jumping out of the way of the mower. If the yard is overrun with insects you may need to spray the yard every 15 days to get them under control.
